Plan your packing
To avoid any delays or disruptions to your travel plans, it is recommended that you:
- Arrive at the airport early enough for all formalities to be completed (for UIA flights check-in is opened two hours before the departure of the aircraft)
- Do not carry baggage/items for other people
- Ensure that you do not have any knives, scissors, needles or sharp objects in your hand baggage or pockets before the pre-flight check
- Take only one piece of hand baggage with you
- Allow extra time for connections at your transit airport (at least 90 minutes)
- Go to the gate early, allowing time for pre-boarding procedures
- Follow procedures and instructions of the security officers in the airport or crew on board.
Airport Security
After check you check in, go immediately through security because there may be long queues and flights won’t wait for you.
As you approach the security check remove your coat or jacket; take your laptop and liquids out of your hand bag for separate screening and be prepared to remove your shoes and belt if requested.
Your hand baggage will be checked by security staff using x-ray machinery. If you have film material over 1000 ASA or are fitted with a heart pacemaker please inform the security screening staff.
Once you pass through security you may then make purchases from the Duty Free Shop or café’s. Note: In some airports, such as Amsterdam and Vienna, the security check is done at the boarding gate therefore items such as bottled water will be confiscated before you board.
EU Hand Baggage Rules
If you are travelling from or via an EU airport there are restrictions on the amount of liquids you may take through the security check point- liquids, such as bottles of water, that are purchased after the security check, may be taken onboard.
All liquid containers must be carried in a separate clear plastic, zip-top or re-sealable bag that does not exceed 20 cm x 20cm (8 inches x 8 inches) or equivalent to one litre capacity. Liquids must be held in individual containers not exceeding 100ml (approximately 3.5 fl. oz). Items must fit in the bag comfortably and the bag must be completely closed.
At the airport security search, the plastic bag must be removed from the cabin baggage and x-ray screened separately.
Do not take sharp objects in your hand baggage that will be confiscated at security.
Duty Free Shopping
You may buy liquids such as drinks and perfumes either in an EU airport Duty Free or Tax Free shop or on board an aircraft operated by an EU airline.
If they are sold in a special sealed bag, do not open it before you are screened – otherwise the contents may be confiscated at the checkpoint. If you transfer flights at an EU airport, do not open the bag before screening at your airport of transfer.
All these liquids are additional to the quantities in the re-sealable plastic bag mentioned above.

Departing from U.K. Airport
As a result of airport security restrictions, passengers departing from any UK airport (including those transferring in the UK) are only allowed to carry ONE item of hand baggage, maximum dimensions 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, irrespective of the class they are travelling in. A woman’s handbag or laptop computer case is considered as an item and therefore will need to be placed into the ONE carry-on bag.
